Having returned from our winter's holiday to Gran Canaria, we have been greeted by such mild weather! I've had numerous reports of plants flowering well out of season. Narcissi, Hamemalis and even summer bedding are in full flower. Whatever is happening to the seasons?

Don't get me wrong i loved the heat over in Gran Canaria (30oC when we landed and never less than 23oC for the week we were there), however they have no seasons- its just hot all year round. I love our seasons, each one is unique and exciting in its own way. Going away to a volcanic island does make you appreciate how green and vivacious Great Britain is.

One thing Gran Canarians seem to be able to grow well are Hibiscus and Bouganvillea. Hibiscus, over there, replaced our privet or lleyandii as great long hedges dividing motorways or garden boundaries. Beautiful colours and some double flowering too.
